Vidcade

Vidcade is a video social app that shows who the funniest person in your friend group is. Backed by Biz Stone (Twitter, Medium) & Evan Sharp (Pinterest)

Product Overview

“GenZ experiences significant loneliness driven by factors such as passive social media use and lack of meaningful connections, leading to adverse mental and physical outcomes” - Ballardbried.byu.edu

We wanted to create a new kind of mobile content platform where users get to intentionally engage with their friend groups in new ways through live interactive gaming.

Vidcade worked as a daily hour-long game where people submit videos to a prompt along with their friends, and our algorithm decides the funniest people.

Responsibilities - Designing the product & coding alongside our tech lead. Architect and executor of all strategies that drive user acquisition, engagement, retention, and overall product adoption.

Problem

After launch, we saw a dip in a key metric, video submissions. To shed more light on this, we spoke to users who exhibited this behavior and those who did not. Results suggested a strong desire for friend-only interactions.

Approach

We used the ICE method to build out a feature that could be implemented quickly and successfully test the impact on video submissions.

Thus, we built out an “Only your friends” feature, which introduced video anonymity to those not included in your friend list on the app.

Takeaway

By leveraging user insights and rapid experimentation, we identified a key barrier to engagement. This experience honed my ability to translate user feedback into impactful product features, drive measurable growth, and deliver innovative solutions in a fast-paced startup environment.

I loved how much fun high schoolers had on Vidcade. It became a safe place for them to communicate with their friends and share a laugh.

For now Vidcade is still on the app store check it out right here :))
